Your child may come across different units of measurement in their exam. There could be stand alone questions asking your child to convert between different units. The measurements your child is expected to be familiar with are length, mass and volume.
Length
Length is a measure of how long an object is. You can measure length with a ruler or a tape measure and units for length include metres, centimetres and miles.
Common conversions can be found below:

An important skill for your child to develop is converting between different units.
Given the facts stated above here are some examples that will help your child to get more comfortable with converting between different units of length.
Example: Convert centimetres into metres.
We know that there are centimetres in a metre. So, to find the number of metres that is equivalent to centimetres we need to divide by .

For this question we can use an in between conversion to metres before continuing to centimetres.

Example 1: Converting Between Miles and Kilometres
The conversions we have looked at so far have involved multiplying or dividing by , but the method to convert between miles and kilometres has a different rule.

Mass
Mass is a measure of how heavy an object is. Mass can be measured using a weighing scale like something you would find in the kitchen.

The volume of a container is its capacity to hold something, usually a liquid like water. Volume can be measured using a measuring jug or a measuring cylinder.
Your child should make sure they are comfortable converting between litres and millilitres.
