King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls Exam Format
Grammar schools under Birmingham City Council, including Camp Hill, select students using the common entrance test to Birmingham grammar schools, under the GL 11 Plus Exam Board. It is notable that students apply to sit this test through Birmingham City Council, not their possible future school. There are four key components to the GL 11 Plus tests: English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal reasoning. The GL 11 Plus is a new concept to children sitting it, along with their parents. For this reason, 11 Plus Hero provides a breadth of specialist materials to guide your child to success.
The Birmingham Grammar Schools Entrance Test: Overview
We provide and overview of the three components which make up the GL 11 Plus Test which is required for admission to Grammar Schools in Birmingham. The test is comprised of the four following components: English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal Reasoning. These concepts are new and daunting to children expecting to sit the GL 11 Plus. For this reason, 11 Plus Hero provides a detailed breakdown on the test parameters. Please see our article ‘Selective Tests in Birmingham – The GL 11 Plus Test’
Overview
- There are two papers; both approximately 60 minutes long.
- Both papers are divided into four separate subsections of English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal Reasoning. The Birmingham Grammar Schools Entrance Test: Pass CriteriaUpon sitting the exam, children will receive their results by October for the following year of entry; on entry in 2023, children will receive their results in October 2022. The results contain an aggregate, standardised score. Notably, your child will not be penalised if they are younger; scores are standardised in comparison to the average aggregate score across the whole cohort. Further, there is no official ‘pass mark’ for the entrance exam to Birmingham grammar schools. Instead there is a ‘qualifying mark’, calculated by examining all the marks of students in that cohort. As a result, the ‘qualifying mark’ varies yearly and cannot be predicted. However, it is estimated that the top 25% of students achieve the ‘qualifying mark’. For more information, please see our article ‘Selective Test in Birmingham – GL 11 Plus’.
