King Edward VI Academy Exam Format

To apply for a place at King Edward VI Academy, your child must take the entrance test, conducted by GL Assessment. The test evaluates academic ability across multiple areas, independent of the primary school curriculum.

The King Edward VI Academy Entry Exam: Overview

The entry exam involves Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning assessments from GL. The exams will be held on different days. The first exam will be on Verbal Reasoning, and the second exam will be on Non-Verbal Reasoning. Both exams will be multiple choice.

There are 30 places that will be awarded based on academia. This will be done by taking the entry exams and the top 30 applicants who also meet the minimum requirements of a standardised score of 220 will be admitted.Ā 

Catchment Area

Priority of places will be given to those living closest to the school, measured by straight line.Ā 

Additional Eligibility

If more applicants achieve the qualifying score than there are places available, the following oversubscription criteria are applied:

  1. Looked After or Previously Looked After Children

  2. Children with a sibling currently at the school

  3. Children receiving Pupil Premium

  4. Children of permanent staff members

  5. Children living within the catchment area

  6. Children living outside the catchment area

In case of a tie in scores, priority is given to those living closest to the school.

The 11 Plus exam consists of two multiple-choice papers: Verbal Reasoning (50 minutes) and Non-Verbal Reasoning (50 minutes), assessing logical thinking and problem-solving skills. Age-standardised scoring applies.

The 11 Plus for KEVI is competitive. Typically, applicants need to rank within the top 25% of results to secure a place. If there are more applicants than available places, additional criteria are applied to determine priority.
